Hell Hound Blues*

I made a deal,
A deal with the devil,
Sealed it with blood,
Now the immortal phoenix,
Will burn and never return.

My time has come,
I'm on the run,
Rain falling down like hail (hell),
There's A Hellhound on My Trail.

Break

The raven darts out at night,
Catches the early worm,
The hellhound is gonna get me,
He's gonna watch me squirm.

Break

The hell hound is a-comin',
He's a-comin' for me,
Two lumps,
Two lumps of sugar and he's gone,
Gone away,
Gone away till another day.

Break
The hell hound is a-comin',
He's a-comin' for me,
Two lumps,
Two lumps of sugar and he's gone,
Gone away,
Gone away till another day.

*I know it doesn't make the most sense in the world, but it is a blues poem/song so that doesn't really matter. It's more about how it sounds.

The Eternal Joke

All the world is a stage,
The players playing their parts,
Nailed to the cross of righteous rage,
Their strings are ever pulled by the winds of change.

The eternal joke,
The ultimate punchline,
Lonely Pagliacci knew*,
But never told,
Laughing with tears in his eyes,
If everybody knew,
They'd be laughing too.

Come My Beloved

Come My Beloved,
Let's rise from the ashes,
Awaken Awaken!
Take off your veil,
Your veil of tears,
For He is compassionate,
And He will guide your steps.

Your light is radiant,
So rise up and shine,
Redemption is near,
You were chosen for the journey,
Leave your mark,
And follow your footsteps.

*This poem is strongly based upon the English translation of a 16th Century Jewish Shabbat prayer called Lkha Dodi written by Rabbi Shlomo Halevi.

Kindness

Kindness seeps out,
Like a tidal wave,
Crashing against the mighty breakers,
of death and deceit.

A summer day,
In the middle of winter,
She is more lovely and more temperate,
A gold complexion that never dims.

King of Herrings

King of herrings,
Ruler of the stygian deep,
Oarfish pervades my dreams,
Penetrates my thoughts,
Hydra of the Pacific,
A crow's nest on the mainmast.
